No one stands up for us parents. We work hard to protect our kids just to have them subjected to silliness at school. The Commissioners went along with mask mandates and lock downs. I don’t agree. I believe a Commissioner has the power to advocate for citizens both within the Commissioners Room AND outside of it. I am not afraid to fight!
Many people feel as though their voice as hard-working, tax-paying, law- abiding citizens is being ignored by this county. We pay too much in taxes for what little we receive from government beyond education and unfortunately, our schools are slipping.
I have been a Republican for most of my adult life, occasionally crossing party lines despite the "party platform," or political moniker to follow conservative positions as those same conservative principles are demonstrated by history to be successful.
As a finance and accounting professional for more than 30 years, I will use my expertise to ensure that County budgets (that’s the County Administration, the Board of Education and Sheriff’s Department) are aligned with the Commissioners’ priorities.
My work with federal audits, forensic accounting, ledger accounting and the like, combined with a Masters degree in Business Administration will help to ensure that resources are properly committed to various County stakeholders and priorities and ensure that we keep property taxes as low as possible.
UNSUSTAINABLE FINANCIAL PATH - We need fiscal restraint and sound financial planning including use of the Constant Yield Formula.
MENTAL HEALTH – The COVID lockdown caused great harm to our kids. I am fortunate enough to have foreseen the potential for harm and worked to offset it in my family. Others are not so fortunate. I will work to leverage County Behavioral Health resources outside of schools to help save our kids from self harm.
LOWER HOUSING DENSITY – High Density rental housing, particularly development exempt from local property taxes, places an unfair burden on property taxpayers for police, fire/EMS, sewerage and schools.
OUTDOOR/SPORTS FACILITIES – having raised three kids through youth sports (CCYFL, Huntingtown Hurricanes and Prince Frederick Eagles), I can tell you that we are sorely behind our neighboring counties when it comes to fields and facilities. We must do better and attract and retain young families.
TRAFFIC – while Route 4 is a State Highway, we must work with our State partners on intersections with County-owned roads to alleviate congestion, particularly at Ward, Cheneyville, Old Town and Stoakley Roads.
